At the heart of any patient/provider relationship is the commitment that comes from mutual understanding and respect. At Innova Primary Care, we hope that every one of our patients knows they are essential. Great care cannot exist without an equal partnership between patients and health care providers. Is this how you feel about your Huntsville primary care doctor? We certainly hope so, yet all too often we hear from people who have less than satisfactory experiences with a physician. While patients often wonder if their needs are indeed being met and long to ask questions they deem significant, many stay silent when it comes to their needs. Many leave a doctor’s office wondering if their primary care physician even cares about them.
Have you ever asked yourself whether your primary care doctor puts your needs first?
Statistics show that approximately 1 out of every 5 patients do not believe their physician has their best interests at heart. In our opinion, this is 1 too many. While healthcare is complex and what determines satisfaction for one may not carry over to another, no patient should feel as though their health is at stake. Satisfied patients are loyal, and those who are not will not hesitate to find care elsewhere. Of particular significance is the fact that patients who feel like they matter are more likely to follow their doctor’s recommendations. They show up for their appointments and follow protocols. This can make all the difference.
At this point, you’ve probably stopped to consider what you’d like your physician to know to create a positive patient-centered experience for you. Perhaps some of the following top your list:
- Listen to your needs and concerns
- Show up on time
- Ask questions
- Express empathy
- Demonstrate competency and knowledge
Did you know that there are things that physicians wish their patients knew? It is easy to assume that doctors quickly cast off the concerns of the day. However, this isn’t the case. We want to dive into the concerns that we have about our patients. Some of these might surprise you. Ultimately, we want you to know that we take what we do seriously. We lose sleep over our patients and their needs. We are immensely honored that you have entrusted your health and wellness to us, and we do not take this lightly. Ever.
We are human
Yep, we may have years of education and residency behind us, but we aren’t immune to the complexities of being human. We make mistakes. We hurt. We wonder how our patients are long after they leave the office. We have families and concerns all our own, but we try our best to put up a strong front for our patients because we genuinely care.
Your time matters to us
We’ve all had the experience of waiting on a doctor long after our appointment was supposed to start.
We are sorry.
However, we want each patient to leave our office empowered with knowledge. We want everyone to feel heard. We will take the time to answer your questions and provide comfort after a hefty diagnosis. If we are late to your appointment (and we promise that’s never our goal), it is because we are likely taking extra time with another patient like you.
We do a lot behind the scenes
Most of us went into medicine because we love people. We consider medicine our calling. Unfortunately, healthcare has changed significantly over the past several years. This means that we are required to fill out paperwork for every patient we see ourselves. In the past, we had more time to be with patients. Now we do our best to devote the same amount of time as before but with the addition of piles of paperwork. We don’t like it either.
Your health is our priority
We love our patients, but in an ideal world, we’d never see you. This is not because we don’t care. Instead, we want you to be in good health all the time. We want you to eat well, move more, cut out the junk, and make great lifestyle choices.
If you’ve got to see a doctor, we hope you know we are honored that you chose us.
Here is what we want you to know: We want your experience at Innova Primary Care to be satisfactory on every level. From the moment you step into our offices, we hope that you notice a difference.
