What does a Medical Assistant Do?
Medical Assistants (MAs) are critical members of the healthcare team in both hospitals and outpatient clinic settings. You are often the first and last person a patient interacts with making you an integral part of the overall patient experience. MAs are trained to perform a wide variety of clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, assisting providers with exams and procedures, administering injections, and performing ECGs and other tests such as COVID and Flu tests.
What does a career path for Medical Assistants look like?
Becoming an MA is a great way to enter the healthcare field. Many MAs work their entire career as a Medical Assistant becoming leaders on their healthcare teams. Others progress on to other healthcare careers after working for a while as a Medical Assistant such as administrative roles, clinic support roles, nursing, research, public health or provider roles as a nurse practitioner, physician assistant or physician.
How does it work?
You’ll start by applying to our program online here (link to online form with name, cell, email, resume, why do you want to join our program?)
If your application is approved, you will be contacted for an interview with our Program Instructor. After the interview, you will be notified if you are accepted into the program typically within 1 week. Upon acceptance, you will work with us 20-40 hours/week to complete your on the job training. You will also be enrolled in our online NHA training platform to complete your coursework online. Once you have completed your coursework and your on the job training program, you will sit for your Clinical Medical Assistant Exam. After passing the exam, you’ll be officially certified through the NHA!
What happens after I’m certified?
If you are eligible to work at Innova Primary Care based on your performance in the program, we will conduct an interview with you to review open positions at our clinic. If there are no current open positions or Innova Primary Care is not the right fit for your employment needs, we will facilitate you finding a job at another clinic by dispersing your resume to other local clinics/facilities who are hiring.
Length of Innova CCMA Program: 4-6 months depending on your speed of mastery of skills
Cost of Innova CCMA Program: This is an apprenticeship type program where your training is performed as you are working alongside your trainer. We will pay you $15/hour to work in this apprenticeship as you are also completing your training towards your certification. The only cost to you is if you leave the program without completing your certification exam. You would then be responsible for the cost of the program and the cost of the certification exam that we enrolled you to take through NHA.
